Situated in the conservation area of Barnston, the present pub was built about 1911 on the site of an Ale House & Barn. A lot of the original character was retained when the present licensee Ralph Leech converted the downstairs living accommodation into drinking space in 1984. Take a good look around when you visit, you may see something you have never seen before.
The decor of this pub is true to it's origins, featuring an assortment of memorabilia with collections of Brass ashtrays (85), Horse brasses (125), Empty whisky cases (135), Ceramic ashtrays (30), a collection of Police helmets and other hats, Plates, Bottles (150), Guiness clocks and many other items of interest. Most of the Edwardian building's character has been preserved, including pitch pine woodwork and leaded windows.
Alongside a superb menu of bar snacks including Platters, Toasted Ciabatas and Baked Potatoes expect to see on the 'Daily Specials' Beef Pies, Lamb Shank, Fish of the day, Lasagna and other delights depending on the season, weather and mood of the hardworking chef and kitchen staff.
In the summer months the drinking area at the back of the pub is a profusion of colour with flower tubs and hanging baskets.
"The Fox" serves a range of 6 well kept Real Ales, over 60 Whiskies, 5 Lagers. It also sells sensibly priced wines including 12 Wines by the Glass.
